Fix all your SSL issues with ‘Really Simple SSL’ plugin

After Google announced marking all HTTP sites as non-secure, there is a movement of internet towards SSL and HTTPS, but this transition is not always smooth. I also recently moved one of my blog to HTTPs. I started with the purchase of an SSL certificate followed by setting it up on my site, but then started all the issues. My site began to load slow, contents were not fetched properly from server and pages were giving me a 404.

Though my hosting provider confirmed that my SSL has installed correctly, I was sure I am missing something. After googling for quite a bit of time I came across issues which most of the SSL migrating users face including .htaccess file rule setup issues, HTTP to HTTPS redirects, Mixed content on page, wrong URL formats and insecure content delivery.

This was a pain in the neck, and then came for the rescue a plugin called Really Simple SSL

This plugin resolves all the general issues you face after installation of SSL on your site, and the best part is that you just need to enable the SSL in plugin settings and rest it will take care of.

What this plugin fixes?

  • The plugin handles most issues that WordPress has with ssl, like the much discussed loadbalancer issue, or when there are no server variables set at all.
  • All incoming requests are redirected to https. If possible with .htaccess, or else with javascript.
  • The site url and home url are changed to https.
  • Your insecure content is fixed by replacing all http:// urls with https://, except hyperlinks to other domains. Dynamically, so no database changes are made (except for the siteurl and homeurl).

Once you have installed this plugin, just go to Settings > SSL and Enable SSL

You are done ! Now this plugin will take care of rest for you. Sit back and see your SSL issues resolved.
